A Former Berekum Arsenal Player, John Paintsil Sues Some Journalists and Media Outlets for Defamation

John Paintsil, a former player for Berekum Arsenals and the Black Stars, has initiated legal proceedings against multiple journalists and media outlets, alleging defamation. This follows his recent appointment as assistant coach for the Black Stars.

The lawsuit targets prominent figures in journalism, including Saddick Adams, Christopher Nimley, Patrick Osei Agyemang (Countryman Songo), and Veronica Commey, as well as media entities like the Multimedia Group, Angel Broadcasting Network, and Omni Media Limited. Paintsil asserts that their statements have damaged his reputation and caused him considerable distress.

All defendants have been served with legal notices and have eight days to respond. Paintsil, a former national team player, was recently appointed as assistant coach for the Black Stars.

Allegedly, Countryman Songo made some wild accusations against Paintsil, while other journalists questioned his qualifications for the coaching role, referencing an old "fake certificate."

John Paintsil had earlier questioned the motivations behind the Save Ghana Football protest on February 14, 2024. He came under severe criticism upon his subsequent appointment as assistant coach alongside Otto Addo by the leaders of the demonstration.

Paintsil has commenced his coaching duties with Otto Addo, but the team has experienced mixed results in their initial matches, including a 2-1 loss to Nigeria and a 2-2 draw against Uganda.
