The District Chief Executive for Berekum West, Hon Isaac Osei on 12th June 2020 distributed five thousand (5,000) coconut seedlings to farmers as part of the Government flagship program, Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) in the agriculture sector.
Speaking at a short ceremony to distribute the seedlings, Hon Isaac Osei said last year under the PERD program, the government distributed ten thousand (10,000) cashew seedlings to farmers for planting in various farms.
According to him, they have observed that some farmers couldn't plant all their seedlings and thus, the agriculture officers will visit the farmers from time to time to monitor if these distributed coconut seedlings are planted to serve their purpose.
He also disclosed that the Government is investing heavily in planting for food and jobs as well as planting for rural export and rural development program and thus encourages the youth to take advantage.
He finally advised the farmers to follow all the directives given by the agric officers to help improve the quality of growth of their seedlings on their various farms.
The farmers also thanked the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the DCE Hon Isaac Osei for the assistance.
