The embattled Member of Parliament of Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong, has been granted bail.
A Human Rights Court on Thursday morning granted him bail with two sureties in the sum of GH¢ 200,000, but the treason charge against him holds.
The judge ordered for his release on health grounds. The lawmaker is reported to have high blood pressure following his three-day detention in Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) cells.
He was also granted bail because he is a Member of Parliament.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker has been in the grips of the law enforcement agencies since Monday and a move to have him released on bail on Wednesday hit a snag.
The opposition firebrand is being held in BNI cells over comments he made on an Accra-based radio station, Oman FM which have been described by many as inflammatory.
The magistrate, Patricia Quansah, who was supposed to handle the case, however, declined to proceed stating her jurisdiction does not extend to cases of such magnitude.
