Lawyers for Multimedia CEO, Mr. Kwasi Twum, have fired a strongly worded letter to the Member of Parliament for Assin North and CEO of Kencity Media, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, asking him to retract and apologise to Mr. Twum for baseless and disparaging claims he (Kennedy) passed of Twum.
Mr. Agyapong on Asempa FM last Saturday suggested Mr. Twum was involved in the narcotics trade, a claim the lawyers say impugned his integrity.
“Your words meant and were understood to mean that our client had built up his multimedia business through the illicit means of selling cocaine with one Jones who lives in New York, and that Joy FM is a direct beneficiary of that illicit trade,” the letter noted.
It said “Your statements have not only caused embarrassment, but also exposed our clients to public ridicule, odium, scorn, calumny, vilification and traducement on the minds of average reasonable men.
“Contrary to your statements, we wish to place on record that Kwasi Twum has built the multimedia group from scratch and his achievements are due entirely to hard work and diligence, and further that Joy FM as the leading radio station in Ghana has conducted itself always within the confines of the law.
“We are therefore under instructions to GIVE YOU NOTICE, and NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that you must within 24 (Twenty four) hours of receipt of this letter, cause to be published with the same prominence, a retraction and apology to our clients and your retraction should indicate that there was no basis for the statements made.
“If no such retraction and apology is made within the stipulated period, we have firm instructions to take immediate steps to vindicate our clients' rights in the law courts without further recourse to you, and in the event we are compelled to do so, we will demand not only a retraction and apology of the statements but also substantial damages, costs and ancillary reliefs,” the letter signed by Shadrack Arhin of Corporate Legal Concept warned.
