Stealing the airwaves as well as becoming the talk of the town for some time now has been the concerns raised by the people of Berekum and as emphasized by a press release of the Berekum Youth for Accountability and Development (BYAD) on the pavement of the Thursday Market and issues surrounding it.
In the quest of getting answers to the concerns raised in a press release by the BYAD led to interviewing a Deputy CEO of the Middle Belt Development Authority, Mr Alexander Ferka by Tofic on Shalom FM, 100.3Mhz on Tuesday 20th August 2019. Mr Ferka indicated that, “the pavement of the Thursday Market, The Public Toilet Facilities at Mpatapo, Biadan, Mpatasie as well as The Water Project at Nyame Bɛkyerɛ, Kutire No.1, Namasua including work at the Boakye-Yiadom Market all fall under NPP's 1 Million USD per constituency promise which His Excellency Nana Akuffo Addo has started fulfilling”.
Going further, Mr Ferka stated that the pavement at the Thursday Market has been divided into three lots with each costing GH₵ 166,617.80 thus a total of GH₵ 499,853.40 for the whole project.
Mr Ferka also made it clear that the work has met the specifications given to the contractor when asked about the quality of work the contractor is currently handling.
On the issue of, if indeed the contractor hasn’t sublet the contract, the Deputy CEO indicated that the contractor at the site is the same one awarded the contract since there has not been any discussion of subletting any aspect of the work to any other company.
Speaking about the lack of signposts at the sites, it was stated that no signpost has been raised throughout the projects in Brong Ahafo due to the failure of the consultants to provide the necessary designs and information to enable the signpost to be erected, he, however, pointed out that the consultants have been tasked to get that done as soon as possible.
Mr Ferka also praised the MP for Berekum East for his massive involvement in all the works undertaken by the Middle Belt to the delight of the team and concluded that both Berekum East and Berekum West were among the four most outstanding works which are to be included in the final report of the 1 Million USD per constituency project.
The chairman of the NPP, Mr Kwaku Kankam, however, pointed out that the contractor was Grow Vision Company and Mr Kwaku Kwarteng is the man in charge of the company.
Does the Thursday Market Project fall under the USD 1Million per constituency as stated by the Middle Belt Development Authority and the Berekum East NPP Chairman or otherwise?
This is a question to be looked into since what the fact-finders from the Berekum Youth for Accountability and Development discovered from the Ministry of Development and Special Initiative isn't consistent with what has been stated above.
