The Berekum Omanhene, Daasebre Dr Amankona Diawuo II and the Queen mother, Nana Akosua Ameahene III with some sub-chiefs and leaders of Berekumman Citizen’s Association have met the President of the Republic of Ghana.
Daasebre with his entourage in a meeting with Nana Addo discussed among other things the development of Berekum including the poor inner road infrastructure and other critical development issues in Berekum.
Berekum for over 20 years has not seen any massive infrastructural development largely due to a long protracted chieftaincy dispute. Daasebre Dr Amankona Diawuo II was subsequently declared the legitimate chief of Berekum in 2013, however, Berekum has still not seen any significant development.
There’s has been several agitations by the populace and indeed has given birth to some associations whose aim is to bring development to Berekum.
One key Association is the Berekumman Citizens’ Association which has a membership of Berekum citizens around the world and aim to bring development to Berekum. Though the association is doing what it can to cause the right change in terms of infrastructural development, it still has not been able to meet the mark it requires.
There have been accusations of the present government for not paying massive attention to the plight of Berekum, which indeed is debatable. The main argument has been that the people of Berekum has been loyal to the NPP government by consistently voting for the Party and its members of Parliament since 2000, but there isn’t much to demonstrate for the loyalty.
On this backhaul, the Paramount Chief of Berekum on Friday, 12 June 2020 took the step to meet the President directly to present the plight of Berekum to him. The President gave him and his entourage the audience and assured them that he will look into it and give feedback within the week.
