The NPP has set June 20, 2020, for the election of the party’s parliamentary candidates for the general elections in December this year. The Berekum East seat is being contested by 4 aspirants including the incumbent, Hon. Dr Kwabena Twum-Nuama.
Dr Nuama is a native of Berekum and the Member of Parliament for Berekum East. He has a degree in Human Biology with a Masters degree in Public Health and Business Administration. He is the chairman of the parliamentary select committee on health and a member of the finance committee of parliament.
He’s been a Member of Parliament since 2012-2013. He has worked as a medical officer at Berekum Holy Family Hospital and as a Medical Superintendent at Bechem Government Hospital.

- Pavement blocks laid on Bre Nye Kwa Station in front of Wamfie Rural Bank(Assembly)

- Free Vacation classes organised for Senior High and Junior High Students
- Incubator for Holy Family Hospital
- Equipping and Furnishing of Kyereyawkrom CHPs compound.
- Rehabilitation of Namasua ClinicRenovation of the Berekum Municipal Health Directorate Office Building
The three other candidates contesting are Paul Ofori-Amanfo, Solomon Kyere-Boadu and Nelson Kyeremeh.
Paul Ofori-Amanfo is a Teacher by profession; a Retired Broadcast Journalist by practice; a Politician by passion; and a Life Coach by duty. He is a native of the Berekum East Municipality and proud royal son from Kutre No 2 (commonly called Kutreketewa or Kutrekumaa). He’s currently a PhD candidate at the University of Cape Coast and a tutor at OLA College of Education.
His vision is to Deliver a Golden Age Era, to Get Berekum to Work Again and a mission To Give an Impeccable and Astute Political Leadership to Berekum East Constituency, to Enable it Become Visible and Relevant Within the Socio-Cultural Dynamics of Modern Politics and Economy.
He has outlined a 20 Point Game Change Leadership Agenda For Berekum East with Theme/Thrust: “ Berekum Shall Work Again”. The points cover several sectors including Leadership, Health, Infrastructure, Youth Development, Sports, Education, Sanitation Endowment fund among other things
Solomon Kyere-Boadu’s father comes from Biadan and his mother from Kato. He has a multifaceted background qualification in Accounting and financial management, human resource management, with a degree in political science and a masters degree in defence and international politics. He works as a Special Services Officer at the Cocoa Marketing Company (GH) Limited, a subsidiary of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) at the Kumasi Take-Over Center.
He hopes to lead a youth-driven development agenda by giving opportunities to the youth through skills development in the various trades and assist in setting them up, mobilize the grassroots and get them to own the policies and ideas they set and implement same, so they feel part of the development process.
He also hopes to use his lobbying and networking skills to assist the Municipal Chief Executive in developing the municipality in terms of getting good roads, hospital, and other development deliverables in all sectors of the economy.
He hopes to also unite the traditional council, religious leaders, opinion leaders, businessmen and women, and political leaders on a common front so that together with a common goal, they can build the socio-economic fibre of the “Golden City”.
Nelson Kyeremeh is a native of Biadan and Kutre matrilineally and patrilineally respectively. He worked with the G.E.S. for over 10yrs as a graduate teacher and is currently the General Manager of Agyengoplus Company Limited (freight forward company) and also the Director in charge of logistics at Labianca Group Of Companies. He was among the last three favourite candidates shortlisted for interview at the Jubilee House for the position of MCE in Berekum East in 2017.
Nelson’s Mission And Vision for Berekum is to work in collaboration with his business partners in the Netherlands (WEGDAM FOOD link BV)the biggest frozen foods distributor in the world to extend the educational exchange program between schools in the Netherlands and all Senior High Schools in Berekum.
Nelson has however made several contributions towards the development of Berekum, including
- Distribution of over 10,000 mathematical sets and pens to all B.E.C.E candidates in Berekum East municipality since 2015.
- Rewarding of candidates who obtained single digit in the B.E.C.E with a trunk, chop box, student mattress and an amount of GH 1,000.00 since 2015
- Supporting of BEREKUM SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, National Science and Maths Quiz team with projectors, educational materials and cash
- Distribution of imported furniture to schools
- Instituting of an educational exchange program between Berekum Methodist Senior High School and Trichel college Hengelo, Netherlands. MESTECH received 120 computers as part of the exchange program1.
- Building of (24)seater public water closet toilet facility with the state of art BIOGAS TECHNOLOGY at Ahenbronoso sanitation site.
- Distribution of sewing machines and cash to support the Ghana National Tailors And Dressmakers Association, Berekum Zone Graduations.
and intends to
- Institute a fund to specifically assist all Senior High Schools National Science and Maths quiz team to prepare them adequately to be able to compete with sister schools.
- He plans to institute a fund to assist brilliant but needy students for their tertiary education.
- He also plans to liaise with authorities of the various Universities to ensure at least a campus is established at Berekum.
