The Berekum Cultural Centre, once a vibrant hub for indigenous gatherings and cultural displays, has sadly deteriorated over the years, raising concerns among citizens. Previous plans to convert it into a high court were halted due to its proximity to a school.
In an exclusive interview with Berekumcity.com, the municipal engineer of Berekum East, Ing Samuel Adu Boateng, unveiled plans to revitalize the dilapidated structure into a two-story multipurpose complex, incorporating a conference hall, offices, and shops. The remodel, funded by the World Bank as part of the Secondary City Initiative, is slated to be completed and commissioned within a six-month period from the commencement date.
Berekum East Municipal Assembly's successful qualification for the Ghana Secondary City Support Program's (GSCSP) 4th and 5th slots will facilitate this project, alongside other initiatives aimed at revitalizing the Municipality. Berekum East has already benefited from the GSCSP, which has seen the transformation of the Thursday Market into a remarkable edifice.
Tender invitations for the project have been issued, with a deadline of March 29, 2024, and a pre-tender meeting scheduled for March 20, 2024, as independently verified with the Ghana Procurement Authority (PPA).
Berekumcity.com pledges to diligently monitor the progress of this long-overdue project until its successful completion.
