Work Begins on the 7.5 million Cedis World Bank Funded Redevelopment of Berekum Thursday Market Under the Secondary City Projects

newtmarketThe Bono Regional Minister Hon Evylen Ama Kumi Richardson cut sod on the 3rd of July 2020 for the commencement of the development of Berekum Thursday Market into a modern facility under the secondary city projects of the world bank of which Berekum is a beneficiary among two others, Dormaa and Sunyani Municipalities in the Bono Region.

The components of the project include police post, fire post, health post, stalls, 10 seater WC, Creche, street lights, about 8200-meter square pavement, roads around the market among other things. The projects will be executed by 3 different contractors in two phases which are scheduled to be completed in nine months.

The contractors, Diamond Valley Construction Ltd, Samotrack Construction Ltd and Me'Yes Lucos Enterprises who won the bids for the projects will be using a total of GHC 7,523,656.42 to complete them.

 

On Thursday, 30th of July, 2020, the Berekum East Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Kofi Adjei visited the site to see the progress of work. The construction of 140 market-shed and drains around the market by Diamond Valley Construction Ltd had commenced.

Hon Kofi Adjei urged the contractor to produce a quality job and work diligently to complete on schedule. Mr Yaw Diawuo, the CEO of Diamond Valley construction gave his word to meet the expectations of the community by providing a high-quality standard facility as stipulated in the contract specification.
