A teacher at Goka Senior High and Technical School and a native of Berekum, Mr William Amankona-Kyere, popularly known as Kwasi Willie on Thursday 5th of December, 2019, donated beds to accommodate some 30 students at the school.
Speaking to Mr Amankona-Kyere, who has been a teacher there for about 4 years said, he feels pain for the students who struggle to get a comfortable place to sleep due to non-availability of beds and end up sleeping on the floor.
He said, his strong Catholic values and the fear of God urged him to come to their need in providing the beds to ease their suffering. “The population of the school is very large and there is accommodation problem, thus the administration saw the need to use two of the classrooms for dormitories and some students are sleeping on the floor so I decided to assist”, he elaborated.
The school which is located in the Jaman North district in the Bono Region has been having severe challenges in accommodating their students. Due to the congestion, some of the students end up sleeping on bare floors which is detrimental to their health. The education office in the district has been having budgetary constraints in providing the requisite resources to meet the school’s needs.
The school is one of the few schools in that community providing secondary and technical education for the people, thus the school is calling on philanthropist and indeed, the government to come to their aid to accelerate the agenda of providing technical and vocation training to the youth to bridge the skills demand in the country.
Good and sound education can only be achieved under a conducive environment for the students.
