Kumasi Asante Kotoko had won their 2 games of the Ghana Premier League spectacularly. The Porcupine Warriors came into their home game in Kumasi with Berekum Chelsea —who were held in a draw in their home game against Liberty professionals last week—with high hopes of crushing the Berekum based, the Blues, but their hopes were shattered.
Kofi Owusu who had missed a penalty in the game against Liberty Professionals last week redeemed himself by getting the opener for the Blues in the 9th minute into the game. Kotoko put in all the necessary effort, but Chelsea managed to hold them off, ending their winning spree and handing them their first home loss.
Kotoko fans were charged, with some attempting to assault the officials of the game, but the police intervened. There’s a report of a fan being hit and bleeding profusely but was carried away in a police ambulance for care.
Berekum Chelsea is one of the few clubs who secure away wins against the Porcupine Warriors in Kumasi. In 2015 in a matchday 22 fixture against Kotoko, Berekum Chelsea scored the Porcupine Warriors by 3 goals to nil, with Kofi Owusu scoring twice in that game.
The Blues appear to be in the top flight this season as they have managed not to concede a single goal and securing wins against the two biggest clubs in the Country, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko in their home grounds.
