Berekum Chelsea Suffers A Considerable Impediment In The CAF Champions League

Berekum Chelsea suffered a massive set-back in their CAF Champions League campaign after drawing 1-1 against a tenacious Al Ahly side on Sunday.

The Egyptian side were the better in the first half with some solid inter-positional display between Da Silva, Aboutrika and Barakat.

Chelsea’s winger Solomon Asante was the toast of fans with some sensational individual brilliance in the game as his intricate and delectate passes brought him many admirers in the stands.

But the six-time winners underlined their credentials with a well-worked performance that saw them grab the opener through striker Oussou Konan Anicet.

The Ivorian striker had the simplest of task of tapping in from close range after Mohammed Aboutrika’s header had hit the bar.

The Blues responded swiftly in the second half with a terrific performance to show why they are in the money zone of the continental showpiece.

With leading marksman Emmanuel Clottey marked out, the Blues begun to adopt a new strategy as they kept the visitors at bay with chief tormentor Asante in full swing.

He laid an incisive cross to un-rushing Jordan Opoku who ghosted his way into the box, controlled the cross and blasted home the equalizer from about 15 yards.

The equalizer seemed to rouse the Chelsea fans as they roared and continued to dominate but once again the experience of the record holders came to the fore as they matched their opponent and created few clear-cut chances in the midst of the Chelsea onslaught.

Chelsea captain Abdul Basit replaced Awudu Moro and his first telling contribution was to collect a pass from Opoku in the centre circle and sharply spin away from Naguib before playing Owusu Jackson who rattled in a thunderbolt only for it to hit the upright on 82 minute.

The 2010 Ghanaian champions have leapfrogged TP Mazembe into second position ahead of their clash against Zamalek on Sunday evening.
