Richard Kingson To Retire As Goalkeepers' Trainer

Ghana’s first choice goalkeeper, Richard Kingson, has told Citi Sports he will retire as a goalkeeper’s trainer.

The Blackpool goalie said he hopes to train goalkeepers at the national team level and at his yet-to-be established football academy.

The 32 year-old who intends to retire from football after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, appears to be preparing vigorously for life after football.

Richard Kingson has been the safest pair of hands for the Black Stars after re-joining the team for the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany, the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Kingson said Ghanaian goalkeepers lack some basics hence his desire to polish their skills when he successfully retires.

“I will open an academy and I will coach the goalkeepers because there is something that the Goalkeepers in Ghana have to know but most of them don’t know these things and nobody is teaching them. I have kept all these in me and I will do it when I retire. If I also get the chance to coach for any of the national teams I will be grateful” he noted.

Unlike his younger Brother Laryea Kingson who holds a UEFA 'B' Coaching License, Richard Kingson told Citi Sports he is yet to pursue a goalkeeping coaching course.

Kingson has had a great goalkeeping career.

He currently plays for Blackpool in the English Premier League, and previously played for Wigan Athletic and Birmingham City.

In the early stages of his career, he played for Galatasaray S.K in Turkey and Hammarby IF in Sweden.

He is the current vice-captain for the Ghana national football team and is the most capped player for the national team with 85 caps.
