VIS, an international NGO with roots in Italy and present in over 53 countries has been assisting farming activities to increase production in the Bono and Bono East Regions of Ghana since 2015.
Speaking to the CEO of the NGO, Mr John Paul Gullatto stated that it is their ambition to support the youth in farming to help prevent illegal migration in Ghana. Mr Gullatto acknowledged that Ghana has fertile land for the cultivation of varieties of crops and thus encouraged the use of organic practices.
The organization is equipping the farmers to use organic manure to enrich the soil for their farm produce rather than inorganic methods. Mr Gullatto explained the side effects of the use of inorganic fertilizers which are harmful to crops and the soil.
The NGO donated various items to the farmers which include Wellington boots, cutlasses, hand sanitizers, rice, face masks, cooking oil, other foodstuffs. The NGO also handed over a mechanized bole hole to the farmers at Akatim to aid in irrigation farming.
The CEO also indicated that the NGO has donated similar facilities and logistics to Amomaso, Nsuatre, Yawhima, Kranka, Donbosco among others in support of agricultural growth.
Mr Gullatto pointed out the farmers will be given soft loans to support their farming activities and thus admonished the beneficiaries to work diligently to reap the right result envisioned through the support being given out to them.
