The Asuama-Kyere Community Library Project (AKCOMLIP-Ghana) a mobile library project run by the EoHope Foundation under the direction of Nana Afia Siraa-Ababio III, Queen of Kato, has helped a number children in the Berekum municipality improved on their education and has indeed helped some of them attained university education with scholarship.
The project, which was launched in January 2012 is 3 years old and will be taking a new dimension.
The project extends a mobile library to a community which has a low standard of education or doesn’t have a library facility. Children in the community are then encouraged to read a book at least once a week.
The project was piloted in Kato, Berekum and it has helped a number of children improve on their knowledge and has actually helped some get scholarships to the university pursuing various courses.
One such beneficiaries are the twin, Ataa Benneh Junior and Senior who is currently pursuing a degree program in Natural Resources Management (in 2nd year) at the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani. These two are being supported by Prof. Obeng Ofori, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the same University.
A stakeholders meeting is scheduled to take place on the 7th of January 2015 at 10am at the Berekum Municipal Assembly to select another community to benefit from this amazing innovation. All who are interested in improving the educational standards in Berekum are being encouraged to be part.
