Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has inaugurated Ghana's third Fire Service Academy and Training School, located in Duayaw Nkwanta within the Ahafo Region on Tuesday 26 March, 2024
This modern facility encompasses a three-story administration block, classrooms, dormitories for both male and female students, a kitchen dining complex, as well as a square and equipment.
Situated on a 30-acre plot of land, this cutting-edge training center in Duayaw Nkwanta marks a significant step towards bolstering safety and security, while enhancing the capabilities of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
During the commissioning ceremony for the initial phase of the project, Vice President Bawumia underscored the importance of this development, emphasizing the government's dedication to surpassing the sole fire training school established since independence.
Dr. Bawumia hailed the government's unprecedented achievement in recruiting over 7000 personnel, effectively expanding the workforce to more than 15,000 within just seven years.
In his address, Deputy Chief Fire Officer, CFO Julius Aalebkure Kuunuor, commended the government for the construction of the facility, pledging to ensure its efficient utilization. However, he also expressed concerns over challenges faced by the Service, including incidents of mob attacks on personnel and equipment, which hamper effective service delivery.
The Chief Fire Officer urged the public to collaborate with the Service, emphasizing the commitment and dedication of personnel, even in the face of risks to their lives.
