Berekum East Municipal Assembly in the Bono Region has commenced its COVID-19 pandemic programs on 7th May 2020 as part of measures to combat the pandemic in Berekum.
Berekum East Municipal assembly is sinking mechanized boreholes in a number of public places including the Berekum Central market, Main lorry station, Thursday market, Rawlings park market, Diasempa market, Biadan market, Ayinasu CHIP compound all in the Berekum East Municipality.
Speaking to the press, the Presiding Member (PM) of the Assembly and assemblyman for Kyiritwede3 Abontema, Hon Pastor Joseph Baffour Awuah said the contract has been awarded to APATECH CONSTRUCTION LTD to provide the boreholes which are to be completed in a few weeks. They are intended to provide water for the frequent washing of hands and other purposes in all the markets.
An amount of One hundred and sixty thousand, two hundred and eighty Ghana cedis and sixty two pesewas (166,280.62) has been allocated for the COVID-19 programs in all district, municipal and metropolitan assemblies in Ghana by the central government as part of the fight against the pandemic.
Monies left after the project will be used for other relief programmes, the PM hinted.
He advised all to observe the protocols put out by the Ghana Health service such as wearing of nose mask, washing of hands with soap under running water, the use of sanitizers, practicing physical and social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
He hopes the world overcome the disease quickly, but cautious measures must be taken seriously to protect lives.
