International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN-based non-governmental organization that assists the youth in obtaining legal immigration from Ghana to other countries in collaboration with BOK Africa CONCERN has provided a soap making resource center in Berekum among other things to help curb illegal migration for the quest of greener pastures.
The core mandate of the organizations is to help the youth acquire knowledge and practical skills to make them self reliant.
The resource center was commissioned on 12th May 2020 at Berekum Senase in the Bono region by the Executive director for Bok Africa with reps from IOM, and the Business Advisory Centre (BAC.). In a statement by the Executive Director for Bok Africa, Mr. Benson O S Boateng said the organization has offices at Dormaa Amasu, Jaman North Dawiri, and Berekum Senase which have trained a lot of people in soap making and the making of various detergents.
Berekum East Municipal Chief Executive Hon Kofi Adjei thanked all members who showed up to honor the occasion. He said it’s wonderful to have this equipment at Senase in the Berekum East municipality to help curb illegal youth immigration in the Bono Region and prayed the center will realize its goal.
Hon Kofi Adjei took the opportunity to appeal to all to abide by the COVID-19 pandemic preventive measures to help prevent the spread of the disease. He pleaded with people to observe the social distancing most especially the farmers in Berekum and Senase when boarding cars to and from the farm.
The Kyidomhemaa of Senase, Nana Owusu Fakyewaa whom the facility was named after, said the center will be put to good use. She, therefore, called on all the youth to take advantage of the resource center to acquire useful skills to help ease their financial constraints.
Some dignitaries present were Nana Kumi Gyamfi, Senase Nifahene, and also regent Krontihene for Senase, President of Berekum hairdressers Association, Nana Abena Kyiraa Kentengbutu, Physically challenged rep Mr. Philip Adjei as well as other groups and associations.
