it's been over seventeen years since Nana Dr. Daasebre Amankona Diawuo II was nominated by the late queen mother of Berekum, Nana Akua Ameahene II following the passing of Nana Yiadom Boakye II, to be the paramount chief of Berekum. However, the legitimacy of Nana Dr. Daasebre as the paramount chief of Berekum had been challenged, until the pronouncement by the Supreme Court of Ghana quite recently, as the legitimate paramount chief of Berekum Traditional area.
The dispute in effect precluded him as a member of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of chiefs and thus could not take part in any activity of the House.
In a ceremony yesterday, Thursday the 13th of September, 2018, at the Brong Ahafo Regional House of chiefs, chaired by Pimampin Yaw Kabrease V, the Paramount Chief of Yeji Traditional Area and the President of the House, Daasebre Dr. Amankona Diawuo II was finally sworn in as a member of the house, lead in oath by a high court judge. Daasebre thus becomes a legitimate member of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of chiefs.
In attendance were several dignitaries including the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister designate and MP of Asunafo North constituency, Hon. Evans Opoku Bobie.
The President of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, Pimampin Yaw Kabrease V, encouraged the members of the house to help resolve various disputes in the installation of new Chiefs and Queen mothers. He further pointed out that, in order for the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs to solve all forms of disputes in the region, a Research Committee has been formed by the House to do investigations to determine the rightful persons for the various seats. “Seventeen Chiefs in the region are all out of the House because they have been battling with court cases”, he revealed.
Hon Evans Opoku Bobie called on the Chiefs in the Region to support him deliver his mandate to the people when he is finally given the node.
He said as the acting Chairman of the Regional Security Council he is well prepared to combat against all forms of crime and also to promote peace in the region.
