Rev Sister John, Admin of Holy Family Hospital Celebrate Christmas With The Mentally Ill In Berekum

Sister Reena Johndonatetomentally illOn the 26th of December, 2019, boxing day, Rev. Sister Reena John decided to extend alms to the mentally ill in Berekum. The Rev Sister who is the administrator of the Holy Family Hospital, Berekum in collaboration with the newly established mentally health Unit at the Hospital, together with the assemblyman of Kyeretwede-Abontema, Hon Baffour, interacted and provided food to over 16 mentally ill persons on the streets of Berekum.

The team presented food, drinks, biscuits to the mentally ill persons as part of the festivity to mark the birth of the Savior of the World in celebrating the occasion to show affection to them to reflect God’s Love for Mankind.

The Berekum Holy Family Hospital has set up a mental health unit which is little over 2 years, to cater to the mentally ill persons in the Berekum municipality and its environs. The Hospital which is a non-governmental hospital has taken it upon itself to bring quality health care to the people it serves and this is one of such initiatives. The unit has expressed its readiness to help treat mental health cases to bring relief to the number of people who suffer and have to travel relatively long distances to get treatment.

In a discussion with Hon Baffour, the assemblyman of Kyeretwede-Abonteman, who is also the immediate past Presiding Member of the Brekum Municipal Assembly and a past chairman of the social services committee, said, it was an honour to have collaborated with the administrator of the hospital in such a noble act, and promised to push the agenda of providing health care to the mentally ill persons and drug addicts in Berekum. He also plans to collaborate with stakeholders to facilitate the removal of all mentally ill persons from the streets of Berekum in the new year, 2020.

The beneficiaries seemed very happy with the kind gesture extended to them, indeed each person was asked what they needed and was provided to them as such.
