Nana Akomea, Agyenim Boateng Must Be Sanctioned - Lecturer

A political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology says deputy Tourism Minister, James Agyenim Boateng and the NPP's Director of Communications, Nana Akomea must be sanctioned for using abusive language on radio.

He believes this will serve as a deterrent to the politics of insults as the 2012 electioneering campaign approaches.

"Nana [Akufo-Addo] will have to take a drastic action. I will have great difficulty seeing Nana Akomea continue to lead Nana Addo's campaign. President Mills has got his own reputation to redeem. He is dining with many people whose hands are so, so tainted so that the gentlemanly character, the nice person that they have put out there concerning President Mills is really challenged now," he insisted. Kwasi Amakye was commenting on a heated debate which turned sour on Joy FM's current affairs programme, Newsfile last Saturday. The two gentlemen exchanged uncharitable words when the allegation on government's plan to bribe journalists to do its bidding came up.

Kwesi Amakye describes the incident as unfortunate and blames politicians for encouraging such acts.

He said the action of both politicians leaves much to be desired and proves that the two main political parties do not have anything positive for Ghanaians.

He said James Agyenim Boateng, whiles at Radio Gold, had the penchant of going off on people "especially on NPP people."

He was unhappy that President Mills honours people like that with such opportunities, adding "society will have to find a way to punish them".

"Here I will look at a vertical accountability. 2012 should really take some of these things into consideration and punish somebody."

Meanwhile reports indicate that, Deputy Minister for Information, Baba Jamal will hold a news conference this morning on the allegations made against him.
