I never requested for a technical advisor- Kwesi Appiah

Black Stars head coach, Kwesi Appiah has made it public that he did not request for a technical advisor as is being speculated in the media.

Reports are that the Ghana Football Association went in search of a technical advisor upon Appiah’s request but he has denied vehemently of making such a request.

“In the first place, I did not request for a technical advisor; I need to make that clear. It was a suggestion that was brought up and I said when it comes to just an advisory role, I have no problem.”

Appiah noted that it is possible for many people to offer advice on the team, noting that it was through such advice that he spotted Christian Atsu.

He says if the government has money to hire ten or twenty advisors for the team, it would be a good thing.

“You know how I spotted Atsu? It was through a friend who saw him and advised me that ‘I’ve seen a player here who is doing very well.’ So advisory role, it could be anyone. And for me, if the country has got money and we can even get ten or twenty people to play the advisory role to support the team, it’s a good thing.”

The former Ghana captain stressed that he is willing to take advice from whoever is appointed the technical advisor; provided it helps and benefits the team, adding that it is always important to have people who can give good advice.

“It is an advisory role so if he advises and I think it will benefit the team and the country, why not? I will take it. If not, I will do what I think will benefit the country because at the end of the day, if things do not go well, it is not about the advisor. It is about me. When it comes to football, I cannot say that I’m the only one who knows everything about it. It is always important that you have people who can always give some advice. The question is whether the advice can benefit the team and the country.”
