BASU KNUST and Berekumcity.com Motivate Students

Friday 26th February 2011, the Brong Ahafo Students – KNUST in collaboration with Berekumcity.com embarked on an educational outreach in the senior high schools in Berekum. The purpose of the outreach was to motivate the students to aim at attaining university education, enlighten them on the courses available at KNUST and what it takes to get there.

The union identified that most of the senior high school leavers and other prospective applicants have problems when it comes to university admission processes and other general knowledge as far as university education is concern.

Upon further investigation and interaction with some of the SHS graduands , it was an established fact that most of them are naïve concerning programs offered at the university and the right procedure for filling application forms, leading to failure to get admission.

Again there is a perception among most of these students that there would be no job after a university education which for a fact isn’t true.

Most SHS Students have also imbibed in their minds that university education is all about enjoyment and other unnecessary stuff.

The perception and its effects on the student facilitated the outreach from the Brong Ahafo Students Union, KNUST-LOCAL AND BEREKUMCITY.COM to educate students on;

  • Courses available and its requirements.
  • The Benefits of university education.
  • What it takes to get to the university
  • Life on the university campus

The activities of the outreach were specifically a Forum in all the SHS in Berekum except, MESTEC and JINSS. There was one-on-one interaction with the students to identify personal problems concerning education.

All the tutors and students were very grateful for the benefits they had obtained from the outreach.

After the program, BASU and Berekumcity.com paid a courtesy call on the Kato Hemaa, Nana Siraa Ababio III who welcomed them with gratefulness and encouraged them to come again.

Students who missed should not worry because a new date would be scheduled for you.

Any further enquiry on university courses and its entry could contact Berekumcity.com
