The Berekum chieftaincy dispute has been hanging for over 12 years now. The immense under development of Berekum is largely attributed to the contest of the legality of the installation of Dr. Leo Ofori as chief of Berekum by the Krontihene, Gyaasehene and others.
The case has been with the Brong Ahafo house of chiefs for a long time. But to the utmost joy of concerned citizens especially members of Berekum For Progress who were in court and well-wishers of Berekum, the long battled case will reach a determination on the 22nd of August 2013. The chairman of the panel of chiefs on the case announced on Thursday, 04 July 2013 that, the lawyers of both parties are advised to present their concluding addresses by 24th of July, 2013, after both counsels closed their cases.
The key question is will both parties humbly accept the verdict which will be prescribed on Thursday, 22nd of August 2013 and allow sleeping dogs lie?
Indeed both parties have indicated their frustration on the deteriorated state of Berekum and had promised to accept whatever verdict the panel prescribe for the interest of Berekum.
