Ghana in recent times has seen the increase of fire outbreaks especially in various markets across the country. It is in this regard the Berekum Fire Service has initiated various preventive measures to mitigate any possible fire outbreaks in the municipality.
On Wednesday July 17th, 2013, the Ghana national fire service of Berekum started fire prevention program at the Berekum central market and other fire prone areas, to demonstrate to the general public what will happen in case there is a fire outbreak in the market.
During the exercise A.D.O. II C. K. Mensah (operations officer), discovered that all access roads linking to the market has been encroached leaving only a footpath which clearly shows that their fire tender cannot pass through when there is an outbreak of fire.
Talking to some of the market men and women who saw what happened as the fire tender was struggling to enter the market to fight fire said they are ever ready to cooperate with the fire service to clear the way for the fire tender to enter the market.
A.D.O. II C. K. Mensah pleaded with the market men and women to remove all structures from the access roads to the market before Monday 22nd July, 2013, if not they will proceed with a demolishing exercise by the deadline.
As the saying goes prevention is better than to cure.
