Caring For Widows is a Responsibilty for All.: Vida Yeboah

Widows (especially those in rural areas) face a lot of emotional, psychological and physical challenges, in their daily lives.

These challenges partly arise from being neglected by their late spouses’ families and friends, mostly with the wrong impressions that widows contribute in more ways than one, to the demise of their late husbands, or are denied the families access to their spouses, whilst they were living.

These and others render these single parents helpless and most of them sell their belongings to cater for their children and in some cases survive.

With this situation in mind, Miss Vida YEBOAH, the CEO of O. V Ohio Mortuary located at Amomaso in the Berekum West District donated pieces of cloth and undisclosed amounts of money to a group of widows within the catchment areas of the facility.

In a short but colourful ceremony held at Amomaso on the 1st of March, 2023, the CEO whose old mother is also a widow, encouraged the women to form economic groups and engage in some commercial activities to help put food on their tables.

She stressed the need for businesses to consider the social lives of such people when engaging in Corporate Social Responsibilities, as a means of meeting the basic needs of the people in their selected area of operations.

Vida said the issue of neglected widows must be taken seriously, since every woman is a potential widow, and every child could be affected.

The CEO who is a nurse by profession also advised the group to take their personal hygiene seriously and take good care of their health by engaging in regular medical/health screening and checkups.

Miss Vida Yeboah said the exercise was not going to be a “one-off” event, and that anytime she’s in Ghana, she’d take time to visit them and do the same.

She was accompanied by Mr Kofi Ofori, Mr Kwame Amankona and Nana Akua Amofa-Boakye.

On their part, the group of widows through their spokesperson Madam Afrakomah expressed their deep appreciation for the gesture and prayed for other Businesses to come to their aid.
