Kato Enstool New Chief Despite Vehement Resistance from Opposing Gate

owusu ansa2Yesterday morning (23rd May, 2016) was supposed to be a calm and a beautiful traditional ceremony to exhibit the wonderful cultural heritage of the people of Kato in Berekum as the Minimini family coronate and outdoor a new chief to replace the late Nana Kwadwo Kyere. But unfortunately, it turned out to be a chaotic scene which saw a number of casualties as the Nnaentene family, the other royal gate opposed, protested and resisted the activity.

But later hours of the day when calm has come to Kato with the help of police and military intervention, the Queen of Kato, Nana Afia Siraa Ababio II and her elders proceeded with the coronation of Mr. Owusu Ansah as the chief of Kato, with the stool name Otwaakwan Nana Kwabena Diawuo Owusu Ayebiafo II. The event took place in Berekum at one of the palaces of Kato opposite the Berekum Krontihene’s palace.

Plans are underway to visit the Omanhene of Berekum, Daasebre Nana Amankona Diawuo II to swear in the new chief of Kato traditional area.

But the question most are asking is, what happens to the Nnaentena’s royal, Nana Amankona Feniri Amoayi II who was enstooled in June 2013 as chief? And whether the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs will accept Otwaakwan Nana Kwabena Diawuo Owusu Ayebiafo II as the new substantive chief of Kato?Indeed, the Nnaentena family has pointed out that the Minimini family has enjoyed a monopoly for far too long and thus this is their turn to mount the throne.

But one key thing to note is that, the Minimini family do not accept the legitimacy of the Nnaentene family as royals to mount the stool since the Queen and her elders believe they are not from the same clan and thus cannot claim legitimacy to the throne.

There seems to be more questions than answer and thus Berekumcity.com will keep readers up to date of this unfolding story to understand the nitty gritty of the whole situation and what this new development means to the people of Kato and for that matter the peace, stability and the development of the Kato traditional area.
