The representative of the Peace Corps from the United State of America, Madam Hedy Pajonk has said that all schools must provide potable water as most schools in Ghana don’t have a portable source of drinking water for its pupils. She said, in Ghana, the sun produces enormous heat thus children need to drink frequently to prevent dehydration. She emphasized that dehydration sometimes brings headache and could lead to damage to the kidney.
She told Berekumcity.com that, it will be prudent for all communities to gather resources to provide at least a borehole for each school to reduce the complications of dehydration in school children.
Madam Hedy Pajonk revealed, the United States of America Peace Corps has been working with Ghana since 1961 and have collaborated on several development activities in many communities. She expressed her delight in working in Ghana.
She pointed out since she came to Ghana, she has been involving pupils of Tewbaabi and Abisaase in the Berekum West District of the Bono Region of Ghana in her activities to inculcate the “I can do spirit “in them. She has started teaching pupils in those communities Beekeeping, preparation of organic compost, preparation of organic pesticides and preparation of gardening. “The pupils can now produce most of these on their own since I introduced these practical works to them”, she expressed delightfully.
She also hinted to Berekumcity.com that the USA Peace Corps has granted the request of the people of Tewbaabi and Abisaase for an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre. The project will commence next year, 2020 where the two communities will pay thirty per cent (30%) and the Peace Corps will provide the seventy per cent (70%).
She finally appealed to individuals, NGOs, civil organizations, cooperate bodies, to assist various schools to have portable drinking to help our future generations from dehydration.
