Peace March Held in Berekum

This month of August is indeed the month of fate. Indeed this is the month the fate of President Mahama will be determined by the supreme court of Ghana, whether he will remain as president of this country or not. This will happen exactly a week after the fate of the ‘chief’ of Berekum Daasebre Amanakona Diawuo II, whose legitimacy as chief of Berekum is also being contested at the Brong Ahafo regional house of chiefs, would be determined.

The Patrons of Berekum in collaboration with the Berekum peace committee on Saturday, 17th of August 2013 organised a peace march to bring together citizens and stakeholders of Berekum to accept the judgment of the Berekum chieftaincy dispute scheduled on the 22nd of august 2013.

The march brought together various youth groups, political parties, churches, the elderly, children and various stakeholders of Berekum.

The march started from the roundabout through principal streets of Berekum and ended at the Omanhene’s park, where the people were addressed by various leaders including the MP of Berekum East, Hon. Dr. Kwabena Twum Nuama, who stressed on unity and peace and encourage all to accept the verdict so we can have a substantive chief who can ‘lobby’ to bring development to our town.

Nana Yaw Manu, chairman of Berekum Peace committee, Prof. Obeng -Ofori, Secretary of Patrons of Berekum , Mrs Roseline Obeng-Ofori, Purdue Peace Project, West Africa coordinator and many other dignitaries were present.

Some of the massages read on the various placards were

We need leadership for development

Conflict leads to misery stop it

No violence after August 22

No chief no development

Youth, don’t trade your future for money

Youth, don’t allow yourselves to be used for selfish gains by elders, politicians and chiefs.

And many more
