The Berekum East municipal assembly has ordered the closure of the following market with immediate effect, Central market, Thursday market, Yiadom Boakye (Rawlings park) market because the traders are not observing the social distancing directive.
The Markets are scheduled to be closed down for three days to ensure measures are put in place to adhere to strict social distancing to prevent the possible spread of the coronavirus in the market.
Speaking to the personal aid of the Berekum Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Kofi Adjei, Mr Stephen Asamoah said, though Bono region has not recorded any case of the COVID-19 yet, there is the need to control any possible occurrence.
Mr Asamoah disclosed to Berekumcity.com that, there will stakeholders meeting today, 15th of April, 2020 at the Berekum Municipal Hall at 3 pm with the leaders of the market to discuss the necessary measures to enforce the social distancing directive in the markets.
Speaking to some traders, they acknowledged that some perishable foodstuffs will be rotten but there’s the need to adhere to the directives to help prevent the deadly disease.
