The Glo Premier league leaders ,Berekum Chelsea has cut the sod to commence their much anticipated Sports complex in Benkasa, a village near Berekum on Friday 11 March 2011.
The teams’ ambitions have been said to be huge. The club would be the first to have its own stadium in the Brong Ahafo Region.
“The pitch would be of international standards,” said Mr. Frank Boahen, Managing Director of Green Grass Technology, the contractors of the project. The complex would have eight athletic tracks, accommodation for players, changing rooms, training pitch and the main pitch and would be able to host 24000 audiences.
The pitch is said to be ready between 6-8 months after commencement. Mr. Boahen also confirmed to increase participation from the local communities to help create jobs for the youth.
In an exclusive interview with the Odikro of Benkasa, Nana Kyereh Amankona, he made it known that he supports the club ambitions and had decided to donate a 20 acre of land and ten thousand Ghana cedies (Gh. ₵ 10,000.00) for the commencement of the project. He encouraged the founders of the club Mr. Kyeremeh and Nana Kwame Nkatia to keep on with their great ambition.
