The people of Koraso in the Berekum West District in the Bono region who are mainly farmers produce various foodstuffs such as pepper, tomatoes, cassava, plantain, maize including cash crops such as cocoa and cashew. One of the key challenges of the farmers is access to potable drinking water when they are on their farms.
Heeding to the cry of the farmers, a borehole was drilled in 2016 by the municipal assembly to make potable water accessible to them, but after the drilling, it has not been mechanized for use, thus the farmers' inability to have access to it.
Speaking to some of the farmers, they said, the borehole will help them, since they carry potable water from long distances to their farms and thus pleaded with the authorities or any private organization to come to their aid to have access to the borehole.
The borehole which is located in Koraso Nifa farming area appears to be in good condition but has been left in a very bushy weeds environment, thus may have to be retested for its viability.
In an interview with the Public Relations Officer for Berekum West DCE, Hon Alex Obeng, he said the assembly will soon mechanize it and indeed they are drilling more boreholes in various communities in the Berekum west district. The PRO urged the farmers to exercise patience because preparations were in an advanced stage to complete it.
