Work Progresses Steadily on The Berekum Thursday Market Floor pavement Tilling Project

pavementAs part of efforts to revive the prestigious status Berekum once had, plans are underway to rehabilitate various markets in Berekum. The satellite market, known as the Thursday Market accommodates market people from far and near. This includes towns like Sunyani, Techiman, and Dormaa and from countries like Cote D'Ivoire on Thursdays.

In the month of April 2019 under the office of special initiative and development, the MP for Berekum East, Hon. Dr. Kwabena Twum Nuama, cut sod for the floor tiling construction of the Berekum Thursday market.

The patronizers of the Thursday Market have complained about the inconveniences they encounter, such as congestion, theft and muddy floors especially when it rains.

The MP made a promise to help rehabilitate the market to create convenience and comfort for both business people and consumers who visit the market. The Market would also be provided with a police station and a proper place of convenience.

The project was scheduled to take a month to complete, however, there were a number of challenges that had prolonged the project till now.

He thanked the people of Berekum for their continuous support in prayers and promised that more
projects are on the way.

Three months after the commissioning of the floor tiling project at Berekum Thursday Market, the contractor is yet to complete, though he’s about 90% complete.

Speaking to constituency chairman of Berekum East of the NPP, Hon Kwaku Kankam disclosed to the media that, it is among Npp government agenda to develop Berekum in fulfillment of 2016 campaign promised by H. E Nana Addo Dankwaa under one million dollars per constituency and assured that the project will be ready soon.

The project is estimated to cost about five hundred thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 500,000).

Some of the general projects include the tarring of the Berekum inner roads and the rehabilitation of the Rawlings Park Market where traders have been relocated to make way for its commencement
