Berekum Hene Orders the Municipal Assembly to Facilitate the Prompt Transfer of the Central Station Public Toilet To Berekuman Citizen’s Association For Reconstruction

modern toiletNana Daasebre Amankona Diawuo II, Omanhene of Berekum Traditional Area, has issued an ultimatum to the MCE of Berekum, Hon Kofi Agyei, the Presiding Member, Hon Baffuor Awuah and Municipal Assembly officials to make sure Berekumman Citizens Association get the needed permit for the reconstruction of the central station toilet facility by the 15th of September 2019.

Nana issued the ultimatum on Tuesday 28th August 2019 during a meeting with the Municipal Authorities and the Berekumman Citizens Association Executives in Berekum.

It is the Association intention to demolish the current health-hazard toilet and construct a new befitting ultra Modern Toilet at the Central Station.

The proposed four-storey multipurpose building will contain a forty plus ultra Modern toilet seats, bathrooms and urinal. A Police post and others will be located in the building, the Association Office will be moved to the building as well.

For over a year, the toilet facility has been a subject of contention between the Berekum municipal assembly and the association who intends to take over and reconstruct it to a modern facility.

This particular toilet has also been a matter of controversy between a member of the NPP and the Berekum East NPP Executives, on who should manage the facility.

Nana Daasebre made it clear to the Assembly that the land where the said facility is located belongs to him. The Municipal Assembly does not possess any documentation of ownership of the land and if they do not comply with his instructions, he will authorize the demolish to pave way for the Association to construct a befitting multipurpose ultra Modern toilet for the people of Berekum.

Berekumman citizens Association plans to build the facility to be managed by a committee set up by Nananom which will include Berekum traditional council, Berekum Municipal Assembly and Berekumman Citizens Association and the proceeds from the facility will be used to maintain it and also to be used to finance other projects or activities in the interests of the Berekum people.
