Nananom ( chief's and queen mothers ) of Amankokwaa of Berekum West District in the Bono region has made a passionate appeal to the DCE of Berekum West Hon. Isaac Osei and the government to build a public school for the Amakokwaa community.
Speaking at a gathering at Amankokwaa when the DCE Hon Isaac Osei visited them to commissioned a mechanized bole hole, Obaahemaa Nana Takyiwaa Baakro, Amankokwaa hemaa (queen mother) made the request, citing the fact that all towns in Berekum East and West have public schools but Amankokwaa can’t boost of such amenity and thus parents find it difficult to send their wards to public schools in their close proximity.
She said reiterated that, as a retired teacher who wishes to help in the upbringing of kids in the community, it saddens her heart that such an amenity is not available in her community in order to make the impact she envisage to make on young pupils.
On behalf of Nananom, she made it known that a piece of land has been made available for the project to demonstrate their commitment.
In a quick response, the DCE of Berekum West Hon Isaac Osei promised to build a structure for the community to start with a crèche if the proposed land is available, from the next academic year.
He said education is something everyone should be passionate about and thus promised to do everything possible to see Amankokwaa get their fair share of infrastructure in that regard. He asked Nananom to pray for him to be able to accomplish all his vision for the Berekum West district.
The chief's and queen mothers thanked him for his promised and assured him that they will provide all the necessary support to make the project come to light.
